Many of you are self-quarantined and are participating in social distancing in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. The virus has caused us to pause and be still. In our stillness, we gain clarity and become focused on our priorities.

If you complain about not having adequate time to take care of your legal affairs, use this time to organize and plan. Take inventory NOW, and begin organizing your account information, your insurance policies, and your retirement investments. Check your deeds and titles. Review your will. Make sure your financial holdings are organized and your executor/successor trustee/power of attorney can access your information. This virus represents a SEASON of illness and unfortunately may prove fatal for some.

With that said, draft that durable power of attorney, living will, and health care directive so your loved ones can step in and represent you in your financial and medical affairs should you become incapacitated. Everyone should have these documents on hand and have copies available for your health care professionals and financial institutions.

Please take care of your WHOLE self during this outbreak (mind, body AND finances).
